BISEXUALITY

Many people who are in relationships with the opposite gender also experience sexual feelings for people of their own sex.. They may describe themselves as straight, gay, bisexual, bi-curious - or just plain confused!

If you’re in this position it’s up to you whether or not you do anything about exploring your feelings for people of your own gender. You may decide to do nothing about these feelings. You may want to talk over your thoughts and feelings with a sympathetic listener on a gay helpline like Project Oscar, or see a counsellor.  You may decide to act on your feelings, and in doing so you will need to think about whether or not to tell your opposite-sex partner.

Many people don’t tell their partner, but sometimes they then develop feelings of guilt about keeping this secret. What you decide to do is up to you. But if you go ahead, do make sure you know about the sexual health issues, and keep yourself protected, as it’s easy to get carried away with the intensity of exploring a new sexual dimension. If you are planning to tell your opposite-sex partner, do think carefully about the consequences, on yourself, your partner and on any children; and make sure you have a place to stay if the worst comes to the worst and you get thrown out.
